San Vigilio di Marebbe (St. Vigil in Enneberg in German, Al Plan de Mareo in Ladin) is a charming village at 1,201 metres in the Val Badia valley, in the heart of the South Tyrolean Dolomites. Getting to this corner of paradise is easier than you might think, whether you're coming from Italy, Austria, Germany or further afield. Here's every travel option in detail.
By Car
Driving is the most convenient and flexible way to reach San Vigilio, especially if you're bringing sports equipment.
From Milan (approximately 4 hours)
Take the A4 motorway towards Venice as far as Verona, then the A22 Brenner motorway to the Bressanone/Brixen exit. From there, follow signs for Val Pusteria (SS49) and then Val Badia. The final 45 minutes from Bressanone wind through stunning mountain scenery on well-maintained roads.
From Munich (approximately 3.5 hours)
A13 motorway to the Brenner border, then A22 Brenner motorway to the Bressanone/Brixen exit. From there, the route is the same: Val Pusteria and Val Badia. A comfortable, fast journey — the Brenner Pass requires no snow chains in summer.
From Vienna (approximately 4.5 hours)
A12 Inntal motorway to Innsbruck, then A13 to the Brenner and A22 to the Bressanone/Brixen exit. Alternatively, exit at Fortezza/Franzensfeste and continue directly along the Val Pusteria.
From Innsbruck (approximately 1.5 hours)
The shortest route: A13 Brenner motorway, then A22 to Bressanone or Fortezza, then Val Pusteria and Val Badia. Perfect for a day trip or weekend getaway.
For direct navigation, search for "San Vigilio di Marebbe" or "St. Vigil in Enneberg" on Google Maps. The village has a single main access road from the Val Pusteria, so it's impossible to miss the final stretch.
Tolls and Vignettes
- Italy: the A22 Brenner motorway is tolled (approximately EUR 10-15 depending on your starting point).
- Austria: a motorway vignette is required (10-day: EUR 11.50, purchasable online or at border service stations).
