Zipline Stories: The Most Emotional Moments

Adrenaline Adventures

Every day on our zipline, something special happens. We're not just talking about the adrenaline rush of flying at 80 km/h over the Dolomite valleys β€” we're talking about moments that change people. Moments of courage, love, and pure joy that stay with you forever. Over the years, we've collected hundreds of incredible stories. These are some of the most unforgettable.

The Grandmother Who Flew at 75

Maria was 75 when her grandchildren brought her to San Vigilio di Marebbe for her birthday. The plan was simple: a mountain holiday, gentle walks, canederli at a refuge. But when she spotted the Adrenaline Adventures zipline from the departure platform, something shifted in her eyes.

"I want to do it," she said. Her grandchildren thought she was joking. She wasn't.

After a thorough briefing with our team and all the safety checks, Maria clipped into her harness. Her hands trembled slightly, but her smile was enormous. When she launched from the first platform, her shout of joy echoed across the entire valley. Seven sections later, tears streaming down her face, she said the words our staff still remembers: "I've waited 75 years to feel this alive."

The zipline is suitable for participants aged 6 and up, with no upper age limit. Our team assesses each case individually to ensure safety and comfort. Read our safety guide for full details.

Since that day, Maria comes back every summer. At 78, she's become our unofficial ambassador and has convinced at least a dozen friends to try it.

The Mid-Flight Marriage Proposal

Marco had planned everything down to the smallest detail. He contacted our team weeks in advance, explaining his plan: he wanted to propose to Giulia during the zipline. Not on a platform, not before or after β€” during the experience.

The technical challenge was interesting: how do you show a ring while flying at 80 km/h attached to a steel cable? The solution was a small sealed box attached to his harness, to be opened on the arrival platform of the fourth section β€” the one with the most spectacular view of Sass de Putia.

When Giulia landed on the platform and saw Marco on one knee with the ring, the Dolomites lit up by morning sun behind him, she burst into tears. She said yes before he even finished the question. Our team filmed everything β€” a video that now has thousands of views.

The Boy Who Conquered His Fear

Tommaso was 8 years old with a fear of heights that had followed him his entire life. His parents had tried everything β€” diving boards, indoor climbing, even a hot air balloon experience. Nothing worked.

In San Vigilio, Tommaso watched the zipline for three days before making his decision. Day one, he watched others fly. Day two, he climbed up to the departure platform but didn't launch. Day three, with our instructor Luca holding his hand and explaining every single safety mechanism, he took the leap.

"I didn't close my eyes once," he told us afterwards, still shaking but with a grin that filled his entire face. "I saw the mountains, the forests, the river... it was all beautiful."

Tommaso's mother emailed us a month later. Since the zipline, he had started rock climbing, attended an adventure camp, and even taken his first flight without crying. A 90-minute experience had changed his relationship with heights forever.

The Team Building That United a Company

When Munich software company AlpinTech booked the zipline for 30 employees, HR director Stefan was sceptical. "We'd tried escape rooms, company dinners, workshops β€” nothing worked to break down the barriers between departments," he told us.

What happened on the zipline exceeded every expectation. Reserved engineers who had never spoken to the marketing team found themselves cheering each other on at the platform. The CEO, known for his distance, was the first to shout with joy during the flight β€” and the last to stop laughing.

We offer customised team building packages for corporate groups, including dedicated briefings, professional photos and videos, and the option to combine the zipline with guided hikes and traditional refuge lunches. Special rates are available for groups of 10 or more.

"It wasn't the flight itself," Stefan explained in his review. "It was the moment when you're scared and a colleague you barely knew looks you in the eye and says: you've got this. That changes everything." AlpinTech comes back every year. And their staff turnover has dropped by 15%.

The Solo Traveller Who Found Courage

Ana arrived in San Vigilio alone, from Portugal. Thirty-two years old, she had just left a job she hated and a relationship that wasn't working. The Dolomites trip was her way of starting fresh β€” but the zipline wasn't in her plans.

"I came for the hiking," she told us. "I saw the zipline by chance, walking past the ticket office. I thought: if I can fly over a valley, I can do anything."

She booked for the next day. That morning, while waiting for her turn, she met a German family and a group of Spanish friends. They flew all seven sections together, screaming, laughing, encouraging each other. On the final platform, they exchanged phone numbers.

Ana wrote to us six months later. She had started her own business in Lisbon, returned to the Dolomites for a winter holiday, and kept in touch with the German family. "That day on the zipline I understood that fear isn't a wall β€” it's a door. You just have to decide to walk through it."

Why These Stories Matter

We're not just an adventure activity. We're a place where people discover something about themselves. Every zipline flight is different because every person who flies is different β€” with their own fears, dreams, and stories.

What connects all these stories is the same ingredient: the courage to try. You don't need to be an athlete or a thrill-seeker. You just need the willingness to let go, trust the cable and the mountains, and discover what waits on the other side of fear.
